Manuela Tavares
She was born on the south of Angola, Calai - Quando Cubango, on the 27th May 1975, daughter of an Angolan mother and a Capeverdian father. Right after her birth her parents immigrated to South Africa and some time later to Portugal, where they remain until the present day.
Having attended Law studies, she has essencialy been dedicating herself, in the past twenty years, to the Management of Cultural and Social Projects, the creation and Production of cultural events, both on national and international levels, as well as artist management of actors, musicians and performers.
Has a Humanitarian, a Social Leader and Entrepreneur since she was 18 years old, she has presided over the board of directors of Cabo Jovem association in Lisbon - Portugal, from 1994 to 2000; she has been a member of the board of directors of the European organisation African Festival Association - AFA based in Turin - Italy, from 2004 to 2007; she has been a member of Chapitô - Colectividade Cultural e Recreativa de Santa Catarina 's board of directors in Lisbon - Portugal, from 2009 to 2012, and the board of directors of WFM Europe - Young Women from Minorities, based in Stockholm - Sweden. She is the founder of the cultural platform of artistic intervention Underground Railroad Lisboa - UR. She is currently a member of African Women Acting - AWA, which headquarters are in Toronto - Canada, as its International Outreach Coordinator and a collaborator of Caótica - Performing Arts Company in Lisbon - Portugal.
Since 1997 she has collaborated with the Council of Europe (CoE) in the area of Non-Formal Education as a trainer in Human Rights, Non-Discrimination and Women's Rights. She is a consultant for various organisations of minority communities in the creation and management of cultural and social projects and the organisation of international events.
